5 Ways to Fight Police Brutality

Recently there has been a lot of controversy about the cops who have been killed.

Police are fully aware that they have a dangerous job in which they may get killed or injured dealing with criminals when they sign up for the job. Criminals whether they be black or white do not represent the black community but police do represent the government. Black citizens did not sign up for being at risk for police brutality or killings.

When unarmed peaceful civilians are killed by the police, they are being killed by agents of the government that is supposed to represent them. It is this failure of government that must be addressed.

In several other General Strike USA.com articles on police brutality  I’ve seen a lot of anger, however it must channeled more effectively than just saying fuck the police or calling them pigs or gloating over police killings. If this anger is channeled correctly we can take action to actually reduce the amount of police brutality. If this anger is channeled incorrectly it can result into a war with the police that will only lead to more violence and brutality.

Here are my 5 Ways To Stop Police Brutality:

1. Protests

Police stations, city hall and other government venues must be protested against and marched on daily.

2. Record the Police

We must use our cameras every time police harass us to catch them in the act. Then we can use the Internet and the viral media to expose these actions worldwide. Cop Watch.com, and the Black Panthers do this.  They have a police watch and  follow the police with a camera and record their actions.  Now that cameras are so cheap and people have cameras on their phones, it is a lot easier to hold the police accountable for their actions.

3. Vote Out Politicians Who Condone Police Brutality

Politicians who do not address issues like police brutality must be voted out of office.

4. Engage in Dialogue With the Cops

We must use moderate police organizations to work with the police to stop police brutality. Groups like 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement have done a lot to combat police brutality and people need to work with them as an intermediary to deal with community issues with the police.

5. Take Legal Action Against Police

We need to take legal action as well. The best way to hurt police brutality is by hitting them in the pocket. If the police keep on getting sued for brutality they’ll be forced to deal with the issue. Every incident of police brutality should be reported to both the government and the media.

Police should be in the communities to serve and protect not to harass and arrest. The war on drugs is really a war on the  community. People are treated like insurgents in occupied territory and not citizens in need of protection. We need to address how the war on drugs has become a war on us that has caused more problems than it has helped.

It’s not enough to be angry at law enforcement and saying Fuck the Police. We must channel our anger into actions that will stop police brutality in the future.

.
Police brutality and use of excessive force has been one of General Strike USAs campaign on human rights violations in the USA. General Strike USA.com documented patterns of ill-treatment across the USA, including police beatings, unjustified shootings and the use of dangerous restraint techniques to subdue suspects. While only a minority of the many thousands of law enforcement officers in the USA engage in deliberate and wanton brutality, General Strike USA.com found that too little was being done to monitor or check persistent abusers, or to ensure that police tactics in certain common situations minimized the risk of unnecessary force and injury.
.
And yet nothing is being done
.
The police become more militarized and more brutal. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We are not safe from criminals with the police and we’re not safe when we call the police.
.
Neither City councils or state legislatures seem willing to act, it is left to the people to bring justice! We have given them every benefit of the doubt, every chance to reform, we can not in good conscience continue to wait and hope. The time is now, we must act.
.
We live in a time when elected politicians ignore the needs of their constituents; where the judiciary and police institutions will not uphold the rights of citizens; where the media are afraid to report the truth; where lawlessness abounds and ordinary people are left unprotected and defenseless against the rapacity of a few. The answer to our dilemma is for people of courage to actively help each other. Only if we unite can we succeed. That is the only way. There is no other way. People, get up, stand up! ORGANIZE!
.
Sooner or later all freedom loving Americans will realize unions, corporations and the major parties have failed to deal with pressing matters of war and peace, income inequality, crime and punishment and the meaning of citizenship itself. It has fallen to the American people to set things right!
.
Public protest is an important part of democracy, just as much as a free press, a judiciary, and congress.
.
A General Strike is a national call to action, from citizens to other citizens.
.
A general strike does NOT have to be violent. It is a matter of CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE, NOT VIOLENCE. You are NOT going to school. You are NOT going to work. You are NOT shopping. You do NOT have to be violent to NOT do those things. March legally. Protest legally.
.
You will need to plan, set up and hold your own local protest. Vigorously promote your protest via local activist and church groups. Also on social networking sites- Facebook, Meetup, Tribe, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Call in to talk radio shows, print and distribute this article, create freeway banners, write OPEDs, etc., etc. You will need to organize enough people to shut down, disrupt normal operations of your local city, town, county and state.
.
There will be ZERO mainstream media discussion of this protest BEFORE it happens. ZERO. So, we must BE OUR OWN MEDIA and promote it. Post this link to blogs, forums, etc.
